What’s in a name? People are sometimes judged because of the name they have been given. Some people are embarrassed because of their names. Still others write under pen names, or act under stage names because their original name was not “cool enough.”
Sometimes, you might harshly judge a person you’ve only just met because there is another acquaintance with the same name as this new acquaintance that you do not particularly care for. You might even make this profound statement: “I have never met a *insert name* yet that I like!”
There are neutral names that you have not yet determined what gender they belong to. Are they girls’ names, boys’ names, both, or neither?
There are a number of self-proclaimed jokesters in this world who think everyone needs a nickname. They will kindly bestow one upon you, whether you desired it or not. This may include, but is not limited to, various modifications of your name. These may be with regard to a celebrity with the same name as you, or an odd, random name that has nothing to do with anything, but since people called you that when you were little, everyone thinks they have permission to call you this as well.
These days, it seems to be the popular trend to find the most offhand name for your new baby. And hey, if you cannot find one crazy enough, start combining already existing names. You never know what you will come up with.
A name holds quite a bit of value. After all, you’re stuck with it for the rest of your life. You can reject it, or embrace it.
